Scottish Wildlife Trust

“Ken started designing for the Scottish Wildlife Trust over a decade ago, developing a brand-new look for Wildlife Watch Scotland, our junior membership magazine, which is a regular publication produced four times per year. I always appreciate his creative suggestions, exceptionally fast turnaround times, ‘above-and-beyond’ help using proofreading skills and unfailing patience when I have exceeded all reasonable draft counts! Ken has also worked on interpretation projects at our flagship visitor centres, producing inspiring designs for signage which appeal to both adults and children, as well as leaflets and flyers that reflect the branding and style of each particular project. Brand and logo development for a key partnership project led by the Trust has been another of Ken’s achievements. His work has at times involved close, effective liaison with third parties such as illustrators, and he copes with tight deadlines. It is always a pleasure working alongside Ken on our projects.”

Horoka Tomamu Montane Forest

Horoka Tomamu Montane Forest is a nature reserve in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. It was established in 2010, the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity. I was commissioned to create a logo for the reserve. My initial concepts were based on Mt Maru, or ‘round mountain’, the peak at the heart of the reserve. Then I focused on the reserve’s abundant wildlife: bears, Ezo Sika deer, foxes, sables, mountain hares, and three species of squirrel. The final logo encompasses both Mt Maru, represented by the circle, and a selection of wildlife. I also developed brand guidelines, a colour palette and stationery for the project.
